Oil Company Housing in Scotland
This
map aims to show all significant sites where Scottish shale
oil companies constructed "rows" or other housing
for their workforce. Housing constructed by Scottish Oil Ltd
after 1919 is not included. At sites with pink
markers at least some of these houses are still extant;
purple markers represent sites
that have been demolished. Some of these locations have been
built over, but many remain as ghost villages marked by nothing
more than a few humps and hollows in the corner of a quiet
field.
