Crude
Oil Works in Scotland
This
map aims to show all sites in Scotland where crude oil was
produced through the retorting of oilshale (blue
markers) or coal & coal-shale (red
markers). Dates for each location are obtained from
rateable values therefore reflect the occupancy of a site
rather than the period of oil production. Sites which served
solely as refineries for crude oil produced elsewhere are
not included, although this is sometimes hard to distinguish
from surviving records. This list of crude oil works is unlikely
to be comprehensive. |
