Pumpherston History Project

5th March 2009

Research at Pumpherston has been progressing rapidly over the last few months and is now approaching the stage of becoming a written work. Memories, photographs, secondary sources are being collated by Tracy Carson and she is now shaping her research into a short history of Pumpherston and the impact of the industry upon the people and the village.

21st October 2009

Pumpherston was once a thriving mining/refinery community, steeped in history, long forgotten about. I’m going to develop a research project which will investigate the background to Pumpherston and hopefully give you an insight into how it all began. From the mines, to the development of the refinery and then the detergents processing plant and now, lo and behold, an 18-hole golf course. For such a small community, who would have thought that it would have played such a big part in history? (Added by Tracy Carson)

13th October 2009:

Pumpherston Industrial Heritage is a new project run by Tracy Carson and will look at the final years of the Pumpherston Oil Works and then look at how the land was reclaimed by the local community to create the Pumpherston Golf Course. The project will cover a range of historical periods and Tracy will be using a range of methodologies.
