The partnership with Nancy Walker (nee Douglas), the Arts Services Cultural Co-ordinator have been working with Lisamaria Marzella (Acting Head Teacher) and Ruth Howard (School Secretary) to develop a three month combined heritage and creative project at the Holy Family Primary School in Winchburgh.

The project will teach the children how to undertake oral history interviews, how to look for information within the interview and to understand how these interviews can add to their knowledge of local history. Nancy Walker has invited Gillian Bowman to work with the children and to work with the historical information to create poetry and song which will allow the children to celebrate the unique social and industrial heritage of Winchburgh.

13th October 2009:

The Shale Villages project has developed a strong working partnership with Nancy Douglas, the Arts Services Cultural Coordinator, to develop an exciting project which will be based within a West Lothian Primary School. The project will combine oral history, local history research and folk-song and poetry which will fully embrace a more creative approach to celebrating the local shale heritage.
