Meet the farm animals of Mill Farm

Livingston Mill Farm lies at the heart of the Almond Valley site. At one time the farm extended far and wide and was home to a dairy herd, produced acres of cereals and bred award-winning Clydesdale horses. Whilst most of the fields now lie beneath the new town of Livingston, the old farm buildings, water mill, working waterwheel and paddocks have survived and are utilised across the site. A host of new buildings have been developed to provide comfortable homes to a remarkable range of animals for you to meet, greet and befriend.

Whatever your age you’ll find it hard to resist the draw of our wonderful farm friends. Fall in love with our adorable polecat ferrets, scratch the ear of our affectionate donkeys, explore the miniature world of harvest field mice, and gaze up in awe at our majestic Clydesdale horses; they really are something to behold. And when you’ve had time to draw breath, go and giggle at our mischievous Bagot goats, stare down our Alpacas and head into Wings & Whiskers to encounter some wee miniature friends.

Throughout the year we regularly host free to access ‘Animal Encounters’ allowing you the opportunity to get up close to our animal friends.

Check out information boards on arrival or ask at reception for availability.

Looking for that special gift?

Then look no further than our tailored ‘Animal Experiences’, designed to provide a once in a lifetime experience for all ages.

As Scotland’s sole approved Rare Breed Survival Trust conservation farm park, we play an integral role in protecting, developing and promoting some of our rarest breed farm animals, for the benefit of our world.  Without practical action to conserve them, many of these breeds would be under threat.

We work with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust on a breeding and conservation programme that supports various rare breeds including Clydesdale horses, North Ronaldsay sheep, Bagot goats and traditional breeds of poultry.

Our farm is much more than just a place to meet friends, it is a place to build your understanding of the vital contribution our native breeds make to enriching biodiversity and to discover ways in which you can support our work to conserve and protect some of our rarest and most endangered farm animals.
