Connecting people, place and heritage
We may be a small, local charity, but we aim to have a positive and transformative impact upon people and place. As a heritage charity, we care for some of our region’s most significant, natural, built and cultural heritage, revealing the stories of our past in ways that enrich lives, encourage debate and lifelong learning and discovery, informing a better future.
We champion the value and importance of ‘play’, welcoming in a growing and diverse visitor base to experience the simple joys and pleasures to be had throughout our estate; engaging and reconnecting with our heritage, spending time in nature, and engaging in energetic, creative play. There is joy to be found on our site for all ages, and an opportunity to spend invaluable time ‘together’ in a wonderful heritage sanctuary.
In addition, we work in and within our communities to increase social cohesion, support health & wellbeing, foster a sense of belonging and amplify civic pride. Our work with schools and academic institutions provides unique pathways for learning & discovery that support children and young people, the next generation of heritage makers, to realise their true potential.

Our purpose and impact
As a major visitor attraction in West Lothian, we contribute significantly to the social, cultural, economic and reputational transformation of our region, supporting community wealth building and through our commitment to working in collaboration with local suppliers and service driving our local circular economy.
Our Mission
We exist to celebrate the value of heritage through the power of play, igniting curiosity, fun and meaningful interaction for all ages, with our past, present and future.
Our Vision
We inspire a lifelong love and enduring value of our past, nurturing people and place and illuminating a better future.
